About Caldsted
Founded with a lasting commitment to seniors with limited resources.
Caldsted opened in 1965 through the vision of Roland and Elsie Olmsted. The name combines Olmsted and Caldwell, honoring the family roots behind the private foundation that continues to support the community.
Today, Caldsted serves 53 independent residents in a gracious setting close to restaurants, medical facilities, shopping, entertainment, and downtown Chattanooga.

What is included
A simpler, more secure way to live independently.
Meals
Three meals a day, except no supper on Sundays and holidays.
Housekeeping
Weekly housekeeping service helps residents keep their apartments comfortable.
Utilities + Wi‑Fi
Electricity, gas, water, and free Wi‑Fi are included.
Maintenance
Maintenance personnel are available for repairs and upkeep.
Transportation
Limited transportation to the grocery store, shopping mall, and beauty shop.
Laundry
Laundry facilities are available on each wing at no additional charge.
To qualify
Independent living with clear admission guidelines.
Caldsted is not an assisted living facility. Residents must be able to care for themselves, ambulate to the dining room, and manage daily living activities independently.
- Residents must be at least 65 at admission.
- Total assets must be less than $400,000.
- Yearly income must be below $50,000 for one person or $60,000 for a couple.
- An entrance fee of $5,000 per person is due at admission.
